Earth Hour 2010
March 26,2010
27 March 2010 is this year’s Earth Hour, where all of us are encouraged to turn off all non-essential lights for an hour from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. As the threat of global warming looms nearer and nearer, people of this planet realize that we need to do something. We can try to do small things every day, and these efforts will add up to a significant amount of contribution to save our planet.
When giving out gifts, we should consider environmentally friendly products. Say, you might be looking for some camping accessories for a camping trip, and you’re interested in getting some navigation essentials for your camping group. A conventional battery torch might be just the thing for a night hiking trip, but why not consider a dynamo torch instead? To light up the torch, you just have to shake the torch. It works on the principle of electromagnetic induction, the torch utilizes mechanical energy to light up the bulb. Since it doesn’t require battery, the torch can actually last a long time! No more worries about whether the battery will last your hike or anything, now you can really go on an adventure without inhibitions!
In fact, there are many other interesting eco friendly gifts to look into. Such as water powered clocks and calculators. Bags with eco friendly material, prints on recycled paper, recycled material items such as pen, pencils, wooden key holder, etc. Stop throwing paper when only one side is printed. Use it as rough paper or print on the other side for internal use. Collect recyclable material such as soft drinks cans, plastic hand soap bottles, reduce less plastic bags and disposables cutlery and plates, etc . There are just too many ways to save our environment. So start now each in a small way for a brighter tomorrow.
